Dinner with KC at this tried and trusted French restaurant in Marylebone. A Michelin star beckoning. We came here for the Autumn menu, despite being a bitterly cold winter's evening.
Beetroot Velouté, Balsamic Lentils, Soused Baby Onions, Smoked Goats Milk. Pre-drowned so to speak.
This starter was complex and thankfully delicious, there's something about beetroot that's been overlooked as a prime winter's ingredient and the smoked goat's milk was beautifully creamy and mild in taste.
Cornish Sea Bream, Butternut Squash and Vanilla Purée, Toasted Pumpkin Seeds.

The second course of fish was beautifully fresh, especially to include it as a dish on a Sunday. The sweet undertones of the butternut squash and warmth of the toasted pumpkin seeds were perfect accompaniments to the dignity of this fine fish. (Although KC begged to differ, he thought the fish was a tad underdone)
Pithivier of Game, Savoy Cabbage, Puy Lentil and Red Wine Sauce.
Aah...how I love game, any kind of game except maybe wild boar. This round, enclosed pie consists of mallard, partridge, pheasant and I daresay all their innards as well. This dish was as you'd expect, filling and thoroughly scrumptious. It'll be rather sad when the game season ends early next year.
Apple and Blackberry Crumble and Blackberry Sorbet.
To include pistachios in the crumble was an absolute masterstroke. This part of the pudding was so moreish you could eat a whole bowl of it all on its own. The blackberry sorbet tasted of nowt taken out or stuff added to; it tasted lovingly natural. In fact everything about this pud remains pretty much faultless. Bravo!
