Now hands up, if you’ve eaten Bovril (before they sanitised it and made it veggie), burgers from dodgy kebab joints, saveloys from faux chippies or maybe even veal brains (I did at Galvin Bistrot de Luxe)!
It's not easy reading about something we prefer not to in the first place. A new version of the human form of mad cow disease is imminently upon us. It's been suggested that genes inherited from our mums determined the first wave of deaths. However this new version aided by the combination of genes from both of our parents is more sinister. It's inherently more resistant to the variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (vCJD) and thus possesses a longer incubation period. Our white-coated experts have now suggested that new victims would only now begin to show symptoms of an infection that was contracted as long as 20 years ago.
The problem with this underlying and dormant illness is that we can’t just tell ourselves to stop eating bovine related things altogether and become vegans overnight. Doom, gloom, it’s a lottery and one of us is harbouring this nasty strain.
